I don’t need a lot from this life.
I want to tell you that I missed you
every morning when you wake up.
I want to hear you call me Sugar
like it’s the easiest thing
in the world.

Like my name
was always meant to sound that sweet.
I want to hug you for the longest time
in the kitchen after work.
I want the ordinary choreography
of making dinner together.
I want to soak
while you paint your music
on the silence of the world.
I want your legs to be tan
at a little sidewalk café in Paris.
Your smile is the sun.
and you can see your reflection in my aviators.
I want to see you come home.
To yourself.
I want to know what your face looks like
when you’re eighty.
I want to see the map of everywhere
and everyone
you’ve ever been.
Written on your skin.
I want to be the last voice
you ever hear.
In heaven, I want to get chairs
next to each other.
Close to the dessert table.
We’ll replay our favourite movie.
The one where our time was limited.
But our love was not.
